Return to Zero: Hope Provider Spotlight
Tell us a little about the work that you do
I provide counseling for those whose reproductive journeys have involved pregnancy and infant loss. My work involves helping grieving mothers learn to live with grief, accept and embrace a new reality and build meaningful lives for themselves regardless of their reproductive outcomes. I've helped many women redefine their identities outside of their experiences with loss and discover joy and hope for the future.
Why are you passionate about serving the pregnancy and infant loss community?
I'm really passionate about serving this community. As a grieving mother myself, I understand the many layers of loss including the secondary and invisible losses that many bereaved parents suffer. Pregnancy loss impacts every area of a person's life and support is vital for this community. The postpartum after loss experience is often overlooked and misunderstood as well. Far too many people are suffering in isolation, covered in shame or embarrassment and hiding their grief because our society is uncomfortable with grief. It's often mishandled and mismanaged which causes more trauma and pain than is necessary. It is my mission to continue to provide safe spaces for people to share their stories of loss and find community where they feel validated, seen and understood while gaining tools to cope with a future that looks different than they thought it would.
How has RTZ impacted your work?
The support groups has been a gift that I'm grateful for and share as a resource often with clients.
Return to Zero: Hope is a community of bereaved parents, families, and providers offering inclusive resources and holistic support for anyone whose life has been touched by loss, including infertility, secondary infertility, miscarriage, ending a wanted pregnancy, stillbirth, infant or toddler death, loss through surrogacy or failed adoption.
Provider interactions during pregnancy and infant loss have a lifelong impact on a family’s healing and wellbeing. RTZ Hope supports organizations and individuals who work with parents who have experienced perinatal loss, including hospitals, clinics, health providers, midwives, doulas, lactation consultants, mental health clinicians, peer advocates, and support organizations. We partner with health professionals to ensure they have the training, emotional support, and resources they need to confidently care for families at one of the most tragic moments of their journey towards parenthood.
This year alone, we've sent over $3000 in grief and loss material samples to health providers so they are more resourced and empowered to support bereaved families. Will you donate and help us continue to get these resources into the hands of those that need them?
