Susan, Spreading HOPE for Henry

Susan Jacobsen, sharing her story in memory of Henry

“It has been a few years since we lost Henry. He would turn 21 on October 1st. We lost him October 1st of 2003 secondary to a missed diagnosis of HELLP Syndrome. While I still miss him every day, I now connect with him though the love I have for him and not as much through the pain of losing him. I connect with him through hummingbirds and foxes when I see them in nature. I also wear a special bracelet when we travel so that we take him with us into the world. I want people to know that my son existed and losing him was real, but also that you can learn to live with this loss. Connecting with others who have a similar journey can make so much difference.

I did much of my healing before I became involved with RTZ in 2020. I was able to get involved as a support group facilitator which allows me to be part of helping others navigate this type of loss. I am so grateful to be part of this organization. RTZ is an amazing resource for support and information. I am always learning something from the other amazing loss parents that I encounter.

I currently serve on the Board of Directors for RTZ. My business, Henry's Heart Art Therapy provides group and individual therapy for those touched by infant loss. I serve on a local networking group of other who work this field. RTZ Hope has so many resources for providers to include brochures, workshops and information. I use the brochures in my practice and have made referrals to support groups and retreats when appropriate.”

October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month.
Our HOPEtober annual event honors all losses on the journey to parenthood.

Even though so many of us have experienced pregnancy or infant loss, or know someone who has, it is a loss that exists in the shadows. As bereaved parents, we feel isolated and alone. But together, we can shine a light on pregnancy and infant loss, helping others to live a life that holds both grief and joy.

HOPEtober Luminaries partner with us during the month of October to be an advocate and ambassador in spreading awareness and shining a light on pregnancy and infant loss. By sharing our stories we’re bringing awareness to pregnancy and infant loss, as well as the resources and support that exist through Return to Zero: Hope. As a nonprofit, raising awareness and funds are essential to our cause and support programs.

We'd be grateful if you you would consider making a contribution to Susan’s fundraiser in honor of Henry. Your gift ensures that other parents who endure loss on their journey to parenthood have the support, resources, and community they need in order to navigate life after loss.

This year our goal is to raise $75,000 during the month of October so that we can continue spread hope and healing by providing resources and support to grieving families and their care providers.

Thank you for helping to shatter the silence around pregnancy & infant loss.
